My friend introduced us to La Bottega this weekend when we took a trip to Long Beach. He couldn't stop raving about it and he and his girlfriend make it a mandatory ritual to eat La Bottega's paninis and salads whenever they come to Long Beach.

When I tried the Shrimp Panini I immediately understood his love for the sandwiches! The Shrimp Panini is amazing, lots of shrimp meat that complimented well with the spicy mayo sauce and bed of arugula leaves.

Tip:
* Better to grab food from La Bottega then settle on beach or afterwards for a sit-down dinner since it's right by the Long Beach train station. Reviewed by Ann L.

While service is nothing spectacular, the food is worth a visit!  La Bottega has such a tiny storefront that I thought it was a deli - so it's taken years for me to walk through the door.  I was pleasantly surprised by the small bistro/cafe-look inside.  The menu is quite extensive when it comes to paninis and salads. The pasta dishes looked like typical Italian fare, so it was between a panini and a salad as I browsed.

I came up with the Butternut Squash Soup & "The Prego" and I couldn't ask for a better combination.  The soup was fresh and hearty down to the last spoonful.  It wasn't so blended that it became veggie juice or mixed with heavy cream...It was just like a fresh squash was sitting on the stove until it turned into soup.  I'll be back for that alone.

"The Prego" (I want to know why it's called The Prego) was listed under local favorites and I could taste why.  It was the perfect combination of prosciutto, cheese and spinach in between surprisingly crisp, light ciabatta.  i could only eat a quarter of the sandwich but it went so perfectly with my semi-sweet soup.  My friend had one of their steak salads and it looked so fresh and well-portioned that I know I'll get it next time!  

I'm looking forward to trying more from this place...service may have been slow, but it wasn't enough to keep me from going back. Reviewed by Keiko C.
